Study Finds Association Between Shift Work & Risk of Cardiometabolic Multimorbidity
“A study of 36,939 shift workers examined the association between shift work and the risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM), which is defined in the study as the coexistence of hypertension and diabetes, coronary heart disease or stroke.
Shift work, which involves about 20% of the U.S. workforce, is defined as work during non-standard working hours (from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.), including afternoon, night and rotating through these shifts. According to the researchers, growing evidence indicates that shift work is related to increased risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes and other adverse health outcomes.
…They say findings suggest that intervention in work schedules may help reduce the susceptibility to CMM among these workers. Read the study at https://bit.ly/3HQK2Vq.”
