Speaker Gerry Luther, OHST, CIT, CIE – Chief Operating Officer of Caliche Management, LLC, will be presenting “Hidden Hazards That Bite” at the American Society of Safety Professionals North Section Meeting (In Person) on October 20, 2022 at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
This presentation will provide attendees a history of preventable and avoidable accidents starting with the S.S. Titanic’s tragic sinking in 1912 that forever changed the maritime safety program and regulations. Additional examples will be shared of accidents and workplace illnesses that could have been prevented to include the explosion in the town of West, Texas. Discussion of the needed recognition skills designed to identify potential and preventable accidents and recommend corrective action.
Mr. Luther is a partner of Caliche, Ltd., an occupational health, safety, and environmental management firm. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO), he is responsible for both technical consultation and business development for each of the two (2) Texas operating locations. Gerry has over fifty (50) years’ experience in health and safety compliance programs to include the military, petrochemical, industrial, manufacturing, insurance, medical, governmental, commercial, and maritime. Mr. Luther retired in 1988 from the United States Air Force after 20 years as a member of the Bio-Environmental Science Corps. He completed his AF career as a Master Instructor at the School of Aerospace Medicine, Brooks AFB, TX, providing technical training for engineering graduates, occupational health doctors and nurses, technicians, and apprentices. Mr. Luther holds an Associate Degree from the Community College of the Air Force in Environmental Health Technology, as well as a Master Instructor Certificate from the USAF Technical Instructor Course. He also holds certification as an Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) and Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT). Gerry has been happily married to Libby Luther for 54 years, has 3 children and 5 great grandchildren.
